We are looking for an ASSOCIATE VETERINARIAN to join our awesome team. We are a progressive small animal practice with advanced tools, equipment and technologies to provide the right candidate with the opportunity to learn and grow in their practice.
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of three years experience working as a veterinarian at a small animal clinic. We are a very busy practice with two doctors seeing an average total of 40-45 patients per day. The ability to work in a fast paced environment with double booked time slots as a regular occurrence is essential.
JOB DESCRIPTION
REPORTS TO: Practice Owner
Associate veterinarian works with the practice owner to define and implement practice medical policies and procedures that ensure quality patient care. The are to deliver medical, surgical and dental care to our patients. The Associate Veterinarian plays a key role in building and maintaining client relationships. They may assist in supervising medical staff members in their daily medical duties when the Owner is not in the practice. This is a leadership position with the additional responsibility of ensuring a positive work environment in which the practice achieves its goals.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
- Provides compassionate care to patients.
- Performs physical examinations using preliminary data provided by the veterinary technicians; diagnoses medical condition and physical condition. Presents diagnostic and treatment options to the client.
- Performs medical, surgical and dental procedures; provides emergency service in accordance with hospital policy.
- Interprets the results of laboratory procedures and determines the appropriate protocol based on the results; reads radiographs and interprets ultrasounds.
- Prescribes medications in accordance with manufacturers label instructions and uses. Understands common side-effects and common drug interactions with other medications.
- Promptly and accurately updates client records in support of the SOAP reporting method.
- Understands and carries out treatment orders from other veterinarians; makes necessary changes in treatment plan when diagnostic results support the decision to do so.
- Is active in professional organizations and community activities and complete CE requirements.
- Communicates objectives, motivates staff, builds and maintains morale, maintains core values and standards.
- Helps to develop new programs and processes that meet clients’ changing needs.
- Sets an example for the staff in dealing with clients; promotes the concept of the patient and client centered environment.
- Delivers in house medical training to the support staff when asked to do so.
- Works toward and attains practice productivity standards.
- Promotes cooperative working environment among staff members; understands the value of teamwork; shows enthusiasm and willingness to perform as necessary to help the practice function as a cohesive unit.
- Maintains positive, cooperative relationships with other employees.
- Demonstrates the practice’s core values of trust, integrity, commitment and compassion toward clients and patients
- Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent medical and surgical skills.
- Excellent communication skills and relationship skills with both staff and clients.
- Ability to recognize that teamwork is essential for a quality practice; ability to work as a team member as well as a doctor.
- Working knowledge of and interest in the business aspect of a veterinary practice.
- Willingness to perform management responsibilities.
- Willingness to work emergencies or extra hours when needed.
- Interest in marketing and growth of the practice.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Display tact and diplomacy with staff members and clients.
- Work almost constantly in the presence of other staff members and clients.
- Be flexible in attitude and work habits.
- Perform basic computer skills, type 45 words per minute.
- Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs). Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position.
- Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious disease
Applicant must be a licensed veterinarian in the state of Florida, hold USDA accreditation, and DEA license.
