At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caringpawsanimalhospital.com\/\">Caring Paws Animal Hospital<\/a>, we\u2019re always happy to provide nutritional guidance, and in this blog, we share some of our favorite pet nutrition tips to help you choose a balanced diet for pets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pet Nutrition Tips for Your Furry Family Members<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to selecting a balanced diet for pets, some general guidelines apply to both cats and dogs, including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A high price tag doesn\u2019t guarantee quality nutrition; likewise for trendy terms like \u201csuper-premium\u201d or \u201cnatural.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Look for \u201ccomplete and balanced\u201d on the packaging.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure the label or packaging contains a Nutritional Adequacy Statement from the <a href=\"https:\/\/talkspetfood.aafco.org\/\">Association of American Feed Control Officials<\/a> (AAFCO), which means the food has met established nutritional levels.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose a pet food formulated for your pet\u2019s species and life stage.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The first ingredient should be animal-based protein.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid pet foods that contain chemical preservatives BHT, BHA, and ethoxyquin; food dyes; and the moistening agent propylene glycol.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid pet foods with high levels of fillers, such as wheat gluten and corn meal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Homemade diets are too often nutrient deficient and are not recommended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pet Dietary Needs for Your Canine Companions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A healthy pet diet for dogs must provide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caringpawsanimalhospital.com\/blog\/the-importance-of-pet-hydration-in-hot-weather\/\">water<\/a>, protein, carbs, vitamins, minerals, and fat.
